The Big Jim Loquat (Eriobotrya japonica) is a must-have for gardeners and fruit lovers looking to add a tropical touch to their landscape. Known for its extra-large, golden-orange fruit, this variety produces incredibly sweet, juicy, and mildly tangy loquats that are perfect for fresh eating, preserves, or pies. Unlike many loquat varieties, Big Jim boasts a low seed-to-fruit ratio, offering more delicious flesh in every bite.

This cold-hardy evergreen tree also serves as a striking ornamental with its glossy, dark green foliage and fragrant white flowers that bloom in late fall to early winter. The fruit typically ripens in late spring, making it one of the earliest fruits to harvest in the year.

Great Start for a Unique Tree

Posted by C. Scheilder on Jul 27th 2025

These seedlings are a great way to grow something different. Mine arrived about 8 inches tall and are already putting out new leaves. Perfect for warm climates and easy to care for. Definitely recommend for fruit tree enthusiasts! (also ordered the inga tree and left same review because I was equally pleased)

I'm very happy with my first order from EPN. The little tree looks great and is now planted in my front yard.
